Aeon upgrade for Mac OS X Lion & iTunes 10.4

Hi,

I just upgraded to Mac OS X Lion, and iTunes 10.4. iTunes is now 64 bit, and won't load the Aeon plugin (since it's 32 bit).

Are there any plans to upgrade Aeon for the new versions of Mac OS X and iTunes?

Thanks!

Fix for Aeon on Lion

I fixed the screen saver and iTunes visualizer on my system by doing the following.
1. Upgrade to Aeon v1.1.1
2. Quit iTunes.
3. Get Info on the iTunes application, and set iTunes to "Open in 32-bit mode". Close Get Info.
4. Launch iTunes and the Aeon visualizer should be available for use.

The screen saver worked immediately after upgrading Aeon.

I am using Aeon Platinum on OS X 10.7 and iTunes 10.4 (80).

I did not find anything in the FAQ or forums about this. Aeon just stopped working after I upgraded to OS X 10.7. As Aeon does not automatically search for updates, an email from SoundSpectrum or an updated FAQ would have made this a better customer experience.

Thanks JE,

Aeon 1.1.1 now loads in 32-bit iTunes, but unfortunately it doesn't work properly. Clicking the buttons (Start Scene, Color Maps, etc.) does nothing, so I'm limited to using the default settings.

It's too bad Sound Spectrum hasn't been more responsive on this issue.

We are aware of compatibility issues with our software and the new Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) and iTunes 10.4 and are working to address this shortly within a coming update. Though we typically try to address these things before a new media player or operating system is officially released, Apple makes it a bit more difficult and less cost-effective for developers when leading up to a product launch. In fact, along with other third-party plug-ins previously available within iTunes, there are a number of other applications which either do not work on OS X Lion yet or have shaky workarounds. However, please know that compatibility with this new OS and new version of iTunes is top priority for us right now and we hope to be able to release a compatible update as soon as we can.

Hello all. Just want to assure everyone that we are still working hard to address full compatibility with the new Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) and iTunes 10.4. In the interim, please see steps below for a workaround on installation.

- Open Finder and go to "Applications"
- Right-click the iTunes icon and choose "Get info"
- Check "Open in 32-bit mode"
- Back in Finder, go to "Applications/Utilities/"
- Open Activity Monitor
- If "iTunes Helper" process is running, select it and click "Quit Process"
- Reinstall our software

Unfortunately, this is not error free as some features seem to be missing because of the new iTunes and OS X architecture. However, these steps should work to install as a plug-in to iTunes and as a Standalone application.

As a long term user of Soundspectrum's various products, Aeon is without doubt my favourite, and I am really pleased to read that you are working on a fix for the problem.

But my main concern is not the iTunes compatabiity, but for the 'Stand Alone' version. Until my upgrade to Lion this was my default screensaver, but I run it now, all i get is blank grey box.

Will you be working on the standalone version as well as the iTunes problem?

I do hope so, as this product is brilliant, but I Miss It!

Thanks

Hi Drusus. We hope to offer FULL compatibility with OS X Lion -- iTunes, Standalone application / V-Bar, and screen saver -- within the next update. Thanks for your patience in this matter.

Great news regarding the impending upgrade to AEON for Lion. In the interim, however, how can I uninstall my current version, as I'm using iTunes strictly in 64 city mode.

Many thanks for any/all guidance.

I'm just hoping that the next Aeon update is backward-compatible, as I'm still on Leopard 10.5.8.

Yeah, we'll be back compatible back to OS 10.4 for a long time yet.
