G-Force 4?

Post by markcu »

Hi, any news at all when G-Force 4 may be ready?
I understand it's supposed to support Windows 7 and 64bit. I'm waiting for this so I can renew my subscription :)

Cheers, Mark.

I dont think there will be aan actual 4 until GF gets to 3.9.9 then a 4 will arise,

I believe that Andy meant 3.9.4 which is compatible with windows 7

Andys post impleid that .4 or v4 would work with W7 64 bit and WMC? yet in the posts above it seems that is not the case? can anyone confirm if I can now use G-force from W7 64 bit media centre?

3.9.4 supports windows 7 but not 64 bit media center or WMP

not sure when 4 will be out

from the Faq
G-Force requires Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 or Mac OS X 10.4 (or later) and requires a G5 or P4 processor (or later). G-Force requires hardware graphics acceleration, so you should install and try the free trial version of G-Force in order to ensure that it runs satisfactorily on your system. Please note that G-Force does not currently support the 64 bit versions of Windows Media Player or Windows Media Center. Also note that the G-Force screen saver is not currently compatible with the 64-bit version of Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard). (See below for more information.)

Well, the new version RUNS on 64-bit Windows 7 but for some reason, the audio source won't allow the selection of my Creative Xi-Fi as an input. So I'm stuck with the random generator.

I know NOTHING about Win7, but under XPro/32, ON MY MACHINE, the only way to get the Stand alone version to accept input from my soundcard is to set it as the default recording source via control panel. If Win7 has some similar concept, I would give it a try. Report back your status

depending on exactly what you are trying to do: http://en.community.dell.com/forums/t/18793122.aspx

I've even tried switching the default sound between my X-Fi Sound Blaster card and also my SRS sound enhancer. For some reason, the only audio inputs for either device are simply "Line In/Mic 2" and I have the latest drivers from Creative Labs for Win 64.

So my option is basically to run it on the random generator or rewire my audio solely for G-Force...which probably isn't gonna happen.

I am only kinda GUESSING what you are trying to do at THIS point, but hear ( :P ) goes. You would LIKE the standalone version to react to anything your X-Fi Sound Blaster sending to your speakers? The "record what you hear" virtual device USED to be implemented in most sound card drivers. Over the years, it has pretty much disappeared ... most likely due to complaints by the record companies. Virtual Cable is a software driver that can be configured to provides that function at a cost ($, NOT free). I am also NOT sure at all whether it works on 64bit, Vista or Win7. Some details are discussed in this thread: http://www.soundspectrum-forums.com/vie ... php?t=6471 .

Does your X-Fi Sound Blaster provide line OUT jacks? If so, you could TRY to install loopback cables from the line OUT to the line IN jacks. This SHOULD work IF the card is truly asynchronous ... input and output are handled independently. You will STILL probably need to set the Default Recording device to "Mic/Line IN". Not ideal, but maybe something to play around with

which X-Fi card do you have?

your X-Fi should have the what you hear option, I have owned 3 creative sound cards and all three have the what you hear option.

I had the X-Fi platinum, X-Fi Extreme Fidelity and the X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Champion .

the software for my Fatality has an option to add and remove certain inputs and outputs from the console mixer.

but first go into the windows volume panel and hit properties

then look under playback and see if the what you hear option is available and if its unchecked check it., also check under recording and check it if its there and select it when it shows in the windows volume.

then go into the X-Fi options in the console launcher and look in the mixer and see whats showing.

in my mixer I can assign inputs and outputs to the available channels, there is an arrow next to each volume slider, click it and the other options are listed there choose the what you hear option and you should be good to go.

I currently have the X-Fi Platinum (the one with the additional bay panel).

Running Win XP 64, I always had options for Xi-Fi WAV, and What U Hear, etc.

Running Win 7 64, there aren't any of those options regardless of whether the X-Fi is the default sound or the SRS is (it's a sound enhancement). The only SB options I have are:

Line-In 2/Mic 2 (Creative SB X- - Microphone
Line-In 2/Mic 2 (Creative SB X- - Auxiliary
Line-In 2/Mic 2 (Creative SB X- - Line-In

I wrote that exactly as it is displayed. The finishing parenthesis is absent from the line.

This is a Media Center computer mostly and it's attached to our Plasma for movies, tv, and recorded tv so I really don't want to run patch cables and stuff just to get G-Force running in standalone version (I like to run it full screen on the plasma while I work on the regular LCD monitor). None of this was a problem in Win 64...I used to have the option of WAV or What-U-Hear as an input. Nothing has changed hardware-wise for me. The only thing that changed was going from Win XP 64 to Win 7 64.

So the only way to get full screen with G-Force is to run it from itunes, but of course then you don't really get full screen as there is no way to change the dimensions. You just get a horizontal version that doesn't match up with the screen, hence the need to run it in standalone so I can match the resolution the best, plus run it in full screen mode and have the other monitor avail. (It blacks out the other monitor when going full screen from itunes).

I have read in other forums that under vista the "what you hear option" may not show .

I know for sure that it works in xp, the what you hear option is one of creatives biggest feature
