Whitecap platinum not available in win media center

Post by psycroptic »

Hey folks. Just bought whitecap platinum & installed on my vista x64 HTPC. Whitecap shows up in Windows Media player as an available option, but not in Windows Media Center. I use WMC exclusively as the machine is connected to an HD display, so just using WMP is not an option. ANy ideas on getting it to play with win media center? Tried reinstalling, running installer in compatibility mode - nothing worked.

i believe WMC is x64 application where as WMP11 in Vista x64 is 32 bit app. Whitecap as it seems does not (yet) support windows x64 OS.

BTW, finding it interesting that no one has responded to your thread from soundspectrum support...

Hello just wondering if this item has been sorted. I have Win 7 64bit, Whitecap works in Media Player but I cannot access it from Media Centre.

I here there is a beta that may be sorting out this issue, is this true also?

The current version of WhiteCap is compatible with Windows 7 x64 and Windows Vista x64.

What are the system requirements?
http://www.soundspectrum.com/whitecap/faq.html#system

Though, as mentioned in the FAQ entry above, we do not currently support 64-bit Windows Media Center or 64-bit Windows Media Player. However, our visualizers should work fine as a plug-in to 32-bit media players on Windows Vista / 7 x64 and as a Standalone application and screen saver. Additionally, WhiteCap should be available within the 32-bit version of Windows Media Player, which also comes installed on Win Vista / 7 x64. You may launch this media player directly by navigating to the following folder:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Media Player\

SoundSpectrum is working to provide support for these 64-bit media players, though I cannot give a specific timeframe on when this might be available. Please note that there are currently no other third-party visualizer developers who provide support for these 64-bit media players, so when we release this update we will be the first. As I'm sure you can imagine, because this is new territory for plug-in developers there is little to no documentation on procedure, either from other developers or from Microsoft, and our developers have spent much of their time and energy over the past months navigating this new territory.

Please add 64bit Media Centre Support

Post by Fayron »

Hi,

I love the stunning WhiteCap Visualisation. Now with a HTPC I like to concentrate just on one media player. But unfortunatly this is the only one which is not supported by White Cap. Please make WhiteCap running on 64bit Media Centre (Win7)!

Thanks a lot

*Sigh* waiting waiting waiting

Been waiting for this since Vista64, now we have Win7 and still no x64 Media Center compatible version of whitecap or other Soundspectrum visualizations *Sigh*

Ive renewed my sub over 12 months ago expecting it to work, but low and behold it didnt, now still no news. Havent bothered renewing and won't renew as it is completely unusable for the purpose for which i bought it.

I mean what is the point of a visualizer? For me its having a dedicated Media Center in the lounge on a 60 inch plasma, to play music with visualisations when playing my music library with friends round etc... you get more and more drunk but its ok, everything is all by the remote which u can carry around with you as you talk to your friends... I cant hack this opening WMP and ALT+TAB to revert to it after browsing the album and playing in WMC... Its not possible when you're drunk and has a thumbs down as far as wife approval factor is concerned.. she cant be bothered either.

I also find it bizarre as most system builders like Dell etc dont even offer 32bit windows anymore and for a long time... why is it taking so long for soundspectrum to update its code to 64bit when most pc's sold nowadays are 64 bit? On top of that, most people buying visualisations *yes buying when there is much free content available* will tend to be the enthusiasts.. the types that tag all their music library absolutely meticulously and want a perfect backdrop for playback... many of these people are people who use Windows Media Center and will happily pay for applications that enrich their digital entertainment.

Sorry for the apparently negative vibe, but in the past i was a winamp user for many years and never paid for any visualisation, just got extremely good free content. With WMP/WMC there was hardly anything available and i was forced to cough up cash for your visualizations which i resented at first as they were not dissimilar to some of the best winamp content i had previously. After a trial and with a few weeks seeing the benefit of it on a big plasma, integrated into WMC all via the remote... i quickly changed my mind and saw it as worth shelling out for. For a while using 32 bit WMC it was a dream using whitecap and other Soundspectrum visualizations when playing music... then it became a hindrance as soon as i went to Vista x64, then 7x64 and so on so on etc..... this is well overdue coming to an end...

You built some excellent vizualisations that worked seemlessly with WMP/WMC 32bit and was able to charge for them because of that seamless integration as well as the very high quality work and regular updates. But you are lagging now for a long time. Im currently following a thread where somebody is apparently writing a DXVA enabled visualisation that can integrate video into your vizualisation experience.. im licking my lips to see the beta... No idea when this will be available, but my current favorite vizualisations wont even work on my x64 media center...

please please please sort it out and when you do, please go to thegreenbutton.com and the other Windows Media Center sites and post telling people it is updated to support x64, your sales will go right up i am certain. When i read that post i will gladly update my subs to all the visualizations, until then im using the excellent free alternatives ive found online and following this interesting development.

I'm in the same boat!

Bought WhiteCap when I had 32 bit Media Centre. Now running 64bit Windows 7.

Thought when the new visualisation came out it would have 64 bit support but it doesn't seem to be the case.

What's the point in renewing if I STILL can't use the software in a modern PC???

flaxius and Tig3RStylus,

In the interest of saving time and not being redundant, please read the following thread regarding G-Force and 64-bit plug-in support. The information also extends to WhiteCap.
