G-Force 32 / 64 bit Information.
The following has been provided by Andy (SoundSpectrum) in order to answer / clarify some recently asked questions on the forum.
The binaries on OS X include both architectures and on Windows, 64-bit is only installed if the installer sees that you have a 64-bit system. In the event that there's a bug where the installer isn't properly detecting a 64 bit windows system, then that's something we would want to look at and fix but would be surprised if there was an issue there.
Couple of notes concerning Windows 64-bit that could confuse some users:
- iTunes on Windows isn't 64-bit (despite its title). Apple only calls it that because it installs 64-bit drivers.
- On standard 64-bit Windows setups, the 32-bit version of WMP is what's launched by default. The 64-bit version has to be explicitly started via 'C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe' (vs 'Program Files (x86)').
- WMP (64-bit as explained above) is currently the only way to run 64-bit under Windows. The Standalone currently only targets 32-bit although we could target both if we chose. This was chosen for logistical reasons since in Windows there's no way to fold multiple architectures into a single app file (like in OS X), so there'd have to be Standalone.x86.exe and Standalone.x64.exe lying around and linked properly to the Start menu shortcuts (note, for example, how there's two G-Force and Aeon dlls). I appreciate that people may feel strongly about this and want to be running 64-bit Standalone (although there's zero negligible performance reasons to do so), so SoundSpectrum *could* do that if enough people wanted it (but it's real work for us that doesn't get people anything measurable).
- 64-bit on OS X requires 10.6 or later *and* the OS install being 64-bit (which requires a core 2 duo or better).
The more I think about it, the more I'm guessing people want to be able to read "64-bit" on the G-Force splash screen. Yes or No?

Hi BTT
Since I had my new rig (About 6 weeks now) I had changed the default WMP 32bit, to WMP in 64bit mode (running Win7 64bit ) and at the bottom of the GF splash screen it says: G-Force 4.3.2 (4133, 64 bit) I had only just noticed this because of this post
I had assumed that the NEW GF was 64bit ....So if I was running WMP in 32bit mode, would then the GF splash screen read: G-Force 4.3.2 (4133, 32 bit)??
But anyway, GF 4.3.2 runs so smooth, (in fact, the best it's EVER been I am getting never below 40 FPS and as high as 63 FPS .... .....So whatever it says it's running in (32 bit or 64 bit). it's running for me just great
Cheers ..

Hello swiftyone
Good to hear you are well pleased with the latest version.

Yes, that is how I understand things from Andy's info.swiftyone wrote: I had assumed that the NEW GF was 64bit ....So if I was running WMP in 32bit mode, would then the GF splash screen read: G-Force 4.3.2 (4133, 32 bit)??

Hmm!...OK, maybe I am not the sharpest knife in the draw, but I seem to be missing something here!....So, your saying whatever software you use for GF (32/64 bit) GF will show this up on it's splash screen..Use 32bit software GF shows 32bit...Use 64 bit software GF shows 64bit .....Right?
So, I run Win 7 64bit, that means I have 64bit OS ...Right? So why, in my screensaver, (which is using the OS 64bit) is the GF splash screen showing GF @ 32bit? What have I missed is this targeted as per standalone? Or is this that BUG! that you said about in post one? As it surely must be because I have GF installed under C:\Program Files (x86)\SoundSpectrum\G-Force, as if it's a 32bit and not a 64bit
Cheers...

The installer only installs GF 64 for the 64 bit WMP thats it! the screen saver and standalone is only 32 bit version.
Hello swiftyone
Your getting me going now.
Although I posted the information regarding 32 / 64 bit ALL the information was provided by Andy (the big boss man).
As I understand it both 32 and 64 bit shows up on the splash screen as 32 bit. Using Windows the Standalone only currently runs 32 bit. Andy made no reference to the screensaver so I honestly don't know about that.
I would advise you to contact Paul Brower (SoundSpectrum) who I know would be able to give you much better information than I can (I am just the messenger )

The installer tells it all,
it looks like this,
I Tunes
Jet Audio
J River Media center
Media Monkey
Musicmatch
Quintessential Player
Real Player
Windows media Player
Windows Media Player (64 Bit)
Windows screen saver
Winamp
Now if Screen saver and Standalone were available in 64 bit the installer would have options for both, i.e.
Standalone
Standalone (64 bit)
Windows screen saver
windows screen saver (64 bit)
hope this helps

no one's upset on this end its all good! ask any questions you have! thats why (we) atleast for me are here.
I dont always know the answer to questions other members have but I try anyway!
Keep on asking!!!
Hello swiftyone
You have not upset anyone. Half the time we are as confused as you, it's usually only by chance that we obtain info from SoundSpectrum which is why we often give a link to their support dept as you will obtain an answer quicker that way.
You continue to ask as many questions as you want, that's the only way to learn. If we don't know the answers we will always do our best to get the info for you.
Keep posting.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I would believe GF installs the same as Aeon. If you are running a 64bit OS, as I am (Win7 Pro), then you have the option to run GF or Aeon in 32bit and 64bit mode. It all depends on which player you run it in. Of course, you have to know where to find the 64bit players first.
If you use the WMP that sits in your Start Menu > All Programs > Windows Media Player, then that version of WMP is typically the 32bit version. If you would like to run it in the 64bit mode, you then would need to go to your Program Files folder (the one that just says that, and not the Program Files (x86) folder), and then copy that WMP (64bit) to your desktop, and/or Start Menu, and/or Taskbar, and then use that WMP version. You can also use GF and Aeon in the WMC program as a 64bit player, too. I personally like WMC better because it has more of the eye candy feel I like in the OS. However, to each his/her own.
