I just tried the trial and while I think it is a very good visualizer, there are a couple of things I did not like.

First - if you guys are going to create a trial product please make it fully functional. I'm not going to buy a product after seeing limited functionality. You can still have the 'trial' text appearing every couple of minutes, but a fully working version with say a 7-day limit will allow potential customers to make a fully informed decision about the product and whether it is right for them.

I found the response to the music haphazard. When a pulsing techno tune was playing the backgrounds barely moved. Play some speech and they pulsed quite nicely. The forground elements (apologies here as I don't know the corect terminology), responded quite well. If the forground elements were constantly present, this would not be a problem. However, they are not. It is rather up-and-down when the visualizer is responding to the beat one minute and not the next when the forground elements disappear. I found that very disappointing.

So, a good visualizer (what I was allowed to test and see of it), but I will not be installing it alongside G-Force and Whitecap on my PC.

Hey Mark,

We're sorry to hear that the Aeon trial version didn't leave a great impression with you. With our trial version, we aim to generally show the majority of content, but do leave some of our content exclusively for paid versions.

The music response quality depends on several things - the most important is which media player you're running Aeon under. Windows Media Player is notorious for not providing great audio data - iTunes (for Windows or OSX) / Winamp generally provide good audio data.

I'm guessing by 'foreground elements', you're referring to scenes that have some sort of focal-point object that reacts well to music - some of our scenes don't have these, and are aimed to be more 'ambient' in nature. Most new scenes aim to have foreground reactivity =p

Our next update will include a lot of new scenes and improvements for existing scenes - once that is available, hopefully that leaves a better impression on everyone :}

Yeah - I use iTunes and rarely use G-Force or Whitecap within it - I use the stand-alone versions 95% of the time.

My main point is the lack of consistency in the output. I don't want to be enjoying an energetic display that is reflecting energetic music, and then for the display to be toned down and for the response to diappear while the music is still pumping along. It's the equivalent of someone walking into a room and turning the volume right down from 9 to 2.

I have to say that I don't understand why such exclusive content should remain 'for paid up versions' only. If it's worth paying for, let me see it. You can watermark trial versions - the existing notification is sufficient isn't it?

If there is an issue with different players then someone who is using a player that outputs poor audio data will think 'that's crap'. If they are able to use the stand-alone version and see a better audio response via their soundcard's output won't the experience be better? They will be more likely to make a purchase, yes?

Anyway, the visualizer is certainly a good one when it's going. Perhaps you can introduce modes like the presets on G-Force but apply them to the output. Ambient mode, bouncing mode, head-banging mode, run round the room like a nutter waving your arms in the air mode... :)

Hi,

I see your point - I'll discuss this with Andy, as we're probably going to revamp our trial version(s) in other ways soon enough. On a similar note, we'll be releasing a video soon that shows some of our best (and new) content, so our products will have different methods of evaluation.

We also have ideas in the short and long-term that allow for more scene categorization / control - hopefully we'll have additional methods to easily control scene progression, possibly even by the next update (though it'll take some python script editing).

The birth pangs are over, the "baby" has been long since been given a clean bill of health, and now we're seeing the real beginnings of a venture into the next phase of this product's viability and lifespan.
Critical observations--which can at times be flavored with brutal honesty--are precisely what are needed this to happen. So of course, we should always be prepared to tactfully handle episodes of customer dissatisfaction that will hopefully vanish with the app issues they deal with.
Yet we've seen--have we not?--proven results time and time again of what can be done when mutually sought goals are achieved.

As you can tell by the preceding example of annoyingly clichéd sermonizing, I can only speak to how problems--especially with a fledgling visualizer like Aeon--can be speedily addressed. I gladly leave the technical jazz to m2c et al.
In fact, is it most true here wherein the phrase "the sooner, the better" perfectly applies. Efficient communication means quicker turnaround time. In turn, the customer gets his/her product "fix" in due course.

Just to chime in, If your are running it in its stand alone version and see its not responding enough then go into the settings and increase the sound response scale and or check the volume set by the app you are running.

i really like aeon, still a few things going on that i dont like but i think there system related my side. I'll try a few things here first then decide if it really isnt me.

I been off the PC side of things for a while but i come and go, and my g-force license expired for the first time in a while and i forgot to renew it. Mind you i have 2 twin girls in my life that are now 2 and have taken i huge chunk of my spare life :) anyways i drifting ( sleep depravation me thinks). So yeah i like aeon Platinum still not in my opinion as polished as g-force but like jay said still a kid aint it.
I'll come to bed once i've seen everything in G-Force.
