Trial Version Dysfunction

Post by BenG »

History:

I paid for a copy of G-Force Gold a few years ago but subsquently lost the software due to various software and hardware modifications.

Recently I tried to reinstall a trial version and I get nothing except for the add at the start of the G-Force run, followed by a black screen. Is my purchase still valid? And does anyone have any idea why even the trial version won't run?

I'm running XP pro -- was running non-legal version but just updated to legal version and still no G-force trial. The installation seems to go fine but I get no visualization. Boilerplate microsoft plugins seem to work fine.

What gives?

Thanks,

BenG

What trail version are you running ?

were you connected to the net when you ran it ?

Does your GFX card support open GL ?
I'll come to bed once i've seen everything in G-Force.

Thanks obstah. I am using the xp trial version for G-force. I was/am connected to the net when running.

I don't know the answer to the third question, but it is the same GFX card -- nvidia 6100 that I have always had, and it worked with both trial and gold version of gforce before the most recent problems.

I have been delayed responding before now partly because in the interim I have also installed on my machine both vista and ubuntu. I am more or less successfully running a triple boot, although the installation of vista seems to have created problems for xp, and driver detective crashes more ofen than not in the xp environment.

The trial download of of geforce (and white hat) works fine on vista, but the same problem persists on xp: I see the ad, as if it is running, but just get a "black screen of death."

I looked up my paperwork and I have my original geforce sales information and license number, so I should think that I ought to be able to get gold running in both xp and vista, shouldn't I?

I don't see anything available yet for linux, but I hope that the ss people are working on that. I would consider paying for another license fee for a product that would run in linux, as I am definitely headed in that direction in coming months and years. Fed up with ms.

Any help you can offer on this, especially about how I reinstall gold versions on the two ms systems, would be appreciated.

Thanks! 8)

First Problem Solved

Post by BenG »

Ok, I have now solved the problem. As I originally expected, this was basically a microsoft created problem. As acknowledged, I ran for a time a copy of xp not entirely legit (while my legit oem copy on my laptop just suddenly up and fried on me -- no recourse!). After paying for and downloading a legit version, windows would not allow me to install service pack two, although it kept giving me an error message saying I needed it. This went on for a few days until I cleaned out the registry (I think that's what made the difference) and suddenly I was able to download sv2 (only after, I might add, I had to learn how to deactivate firefox as my default browser since even after all the other crap ms would not allow me to download the service pack using firefox!). Once I had done that, trial g-force began working again like a...um, charm.

I hope someone at sound spectrum is listening to all this. You have a great product. If I were you, I wouldn't want to get too cozy with ms. You don't wish to be associated with its racketeering, and you aren't dependent on the Redmond crowd (I'm from Kirkland, Wa.) in the coming age of Linux.

--rant off--

So my only remaining question is, can I now get the gold version to run on my two fully legal versions of windows?

Thanks.
