Win7 Media Center - hangs when stopping music

Win7 Media Center - hangs when stopping music

Version of your OS: Windows 7 32-bit
Version of G-Force: 3.9.3 Platinum
Version of your media player: Windows 7 Media Center
Graphics hardware info: Powercolor ATI Radeon HD4550
CPU info: Core2Duo

Detailed Description of Bug
________
G-Force plays fine when music starts, but when I press the Stop button to end music playback the G-Force animation stops and hangs. I believe Media Center is still active because I can hear navigation sounds when I press nav keys on the remote control, however the screen just shows a static image of G-Force.

If I press Alt-F4 the system will close Media Center and return to the desktop and then operate normally.

Description of How to Replicate Bug
In Windows 7 Media Center go to the Music library and play any song. Start the G-Force visualisation from the "Info" menu. After G-Force starts, press the Stop button on the remote control. G-Force graphics hang.

Same issue here

Post by busanchez »

Im on Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit
Using Media Center with Gforce 934
Running with an ATI 4670 video card taking HDMI out to my TV

If I run full screen I cannot exit out of GForce it just hangs if you attempt to stop playback or goto the menu.

I also have seen an issue when starting GForce that causes the screen to flash repeatedly and the audio is choppy. If I change my audio out to use my onboard SPDIF this problem goes away. If audio is on the HDMI I have a problem.

In both cases - If I run windowed I have no issues. Seems like a graphics card issue or driver issue (which I updated to latest release) but I wanted to see if anyone else has the issue. Also posting this so other can be informed. I have opened a ticket with SoundSpectrum.

Yes. Exactly the same problem - and it's definitely graphics driver related. I removed the ATI drivers and Catalyst Control Center and ran the PC with the Windows 7 native drivers. This fixed the problem with G-
Force. But I need the ATI drivers to correctly size my HTPC for my TV, so have to have the drivers installed. Reinstalled ATI drivers and problem returns. I have an support ticket open also.

No solution yet. Please make sure you lodge a ticket with support. The more people that do this, the more pressure there will be to find a fix.

Me three. The only things I have observed:

1. If you start the visualization in non fullscreen and THEN change to fullscreen it seems to work ok.
2. When it is NOT working, there is no cover art.
3. If you use 'previous' to get out of the visualiztion in fullscreen it seems to exit ok.

I'll lodge a ticket to be sure.

Subject: G-force and Whitecap hang within Media Center and Media Player
Bug Report - Both G-force and Whitecap seem to hang in fullscreen mode when attempting to exit them.

Your System Information
Version of your OS: Windows 7, 32-bit
Version of G-Force: 3.9.4 (whitecap: 5.2.2)
Version of your media player: Win7 Media Center; Windows Media Player 12
Graphics hardware info: Radeon HD 4670
CPU info: Athlon II X4 630
Other info:

GIGABYTE GA-MA790XT-UD4P
Hauppauge 2250
4 GB RAM

Detailed Description of Bug

This applies to both g-force and whitecap (full versions).

Basically if started in full-screen mode the visualizations work but do not display cover art or other information (such as hint to use +/-). The major issue is when I attempt to 'exit'. By 'exit' I mean actions such as:

* Change visualization (via +/-)
* Stop music

On 'exit', the visualization hangs and I have to kill Media Center/Media Player.

If I press 'previous' within media center, the media center menus are shown but if I subsequently try to perfom visualizations again it sometimes hangs.

If I start the visualizations in non-full screen mode, the cover art, etc is shown and everything works fine. No hangs at all. If I switch to fullscreen after starting in non full-screen, also everything works fine.

Description of How to Replicate Bug
1. Start Media Center OR Media Player in full-screen mode.
2. Press +/- to change to another visualization (all I have is g-force/whitecap. Built in windows ones are disabled).
3. Visualization hangs and Media Center is unavailable -- although it almost seems as if its stull running as I can hear it changing menus etc.

Well I removed the latest drivers from ATI and the Catalyst software. I have a slightler older one now installed from Win 7/MS -- still from ATI. Dated about 12/2009. It seems to work much better. NO hangs and all is well.

It *might* have a small black border around the screen. To be honest I noticed it after the downgrade and am assuming it was not there with the latest.

EIther way I am sticking with the older drivers and will peridically check the newer ones.

Hello Everyone. The WMC freezing issue has been determined to be a Direct3D issue present in WMC on Windows 7. However, Andy has corresponded with the WMC development team and they have provided a workaround which we have implemented and will be available in the next round of update releases. Thanks for everyone's patience.
