I-Tunes Visualization=G-force?
I just downloaded the I-Tunes today so I could listen to the Electronica radio, and I noticed they had a visualization option, so I click it...to my suprise it looks a lot like G-Force. Has G-Force signed with I-tunes? or is it a rip off? Case they look very similar, but I think G-Force is better.
Anybody else notice this?

Looks like it is. This is in the about thing:
Also, this link proves it. G-force was licenced to Apple for iTunes, and to Microsoft for Windows Media Center. That is pretty cool, and it mostly goes unnoticed. Cudos to Andy and the gang for nailing those gigs. In addition to that, I was at one of the Michael W. Smith concerts and saw it there. I swore that that was G-Force, and now I feal all good that I was right
Now if the Xbox360, PSP, and iPod would all grab hold of this, I could enjoy GF on all my devices!!!

well.
I wonder why I-tunes only comes with one viz? WMP comes with quite a few.
I still like the windows ones, also. They are simple, like the graph, and fountain, etc.
It is nothing like G-Force, although I loved "pixel trip" (I have it) before I discovered G-force.
Only thing that bugs me about G-Force: It is slow starting up.
You can show your credits through the beginning of the viz, you know?

Yeah a few years ago now (was 3 years?) Apple licensed Gforce for use in their Itunes player. A nice gig but I doubt Andy got anywhere near the true worth for this. There was a worldwide advertising campaign for the new iMac at the time with Gforce/iTunes visualizer and the main content. I saw a few different adverts in the UK. Producing just the content for a worldwide ad campaign you are looking at over $50,000 for each advert.
Someone got a good deal out of it and I bet it wasn't Andy.
But they are better than Microsoft though they are a pain to work with nearly got the gig for doing visualization for the new Xbox 2 (360). There are so many hoops to jump through it didn't happen in the end.

if were delving into this then a small thing that happened at christmas time was andy promising us a nice christmassy version of whitecap, but everybody who uses windows media player and downloaded the christmas pack managed to get there hands on the christmas whitecap ages before the people who visit the sound spectrum site did, still i suppose there was a finacial profit in doing this and thats good for me and good for everybody else too
I'll come to bed once i've seen everything in G-Force.
Actually it would have been something new. MOre an updated R4 and Milkdrop hybird. Anyway it appears that Jeff Minter had the gig after us.Wolf wrote:Dude Rovastar, you had a chance to do the vis on the Xbox2? Dang, Milkdrop would have rocked on it. Too bad, they will probably put the same boaring one that the current Xbox uses..

Technically, the visualizer for the current XBox isn't a true visualizer. It doesn't run off of the actual sound of the music file (you can see this by listening to a soft piece of music. It looks just like a loud piece of music makes it look). Kinda odd, eh?Wolf wrote:Dude Rovastar, you had a chance to do the vis on the Xbox2? Dang, Milkdrop would have rocked on it. Someone else can probably verify or not verify this, but from what I understand the Apple version of the G-Force engine is now maintained by Apple. There version in iTunes already uses the 3D graphics drivers, while G-Force's 3D version is still in development. On my Mac, I get much better framerates with the built-in visualizer than with G-Force. I'm no programmer, so I suspect there are a lot more factors at work for the difference, but I think the 3D ability is one?
Of course, despite the framerates, I just size G-Force down a bit and enjoy the variety it offers. I don't remember the last time I fired up the built-in visualizer.
Looking forward to what version 3 brings. Maybe by then I'll have my Power Mac G5 and can really drive it better.

It's been a while since I used the iTunes viz, prefering G-Force — as most of you do. Just to see the smoother frame rates mentioned above I switched to it. Out of habit I hit the G-Force config keys. They work! But are mapped differently.
And the Verbose mode doesn't need to be turned on: just hitting the mode change keys will cause all three configs to appear in the upper right corner of the window
I suppose if I had ever read the iTunes help files I might have know this already.

Have Apple at 3D stuff to their version of GF? I doubt it tbh. That would be a complete re-write of the code. It would have been easier to make somehing new and besides is a 3D a requirement to run ITunes. How long has taht been the case?
Remember that the effects in the iTunes version of GF are 3-4 years old now. NOw we have more advanced and complex flowfield, etc and they do run slower. IF you have the same configs as true GF and the iTunes version I suspect they would be the same.
