My G-Force stops for an instant every 3 or 4 seconds. It's like it's stopping to catch its breath and then run some more. It happens at any resolution.
I've got an AMD 3.0 with a gig of memory and a big hard drive, so I think I've got enough resources. My video card's got NVidia GeForce2 MX/MX 400 with 64 mb of memory, so that's probably up to the task. Is there any way I can smooth this out?
Thanks, Neil Bachers San Francisco

Realistically, you might wanna get a slightly better video card. I don't know exactly how much video resources GF uses, but the MX series was a catastrophe (it doesn't include HWT&L, and other BASIC features). You could upgrade to a MUCH better card with more memory on it for less than $100.
Also, what resolution are you rinning GF in? anything higher than 1024x768 and you'll need to limit your height to around 800. Otherwise it'll lag like CRAZY. And make sure pixel-doubling is off.

G-force is not gfx card dependant its is mainly concerned with your cpu, so a faster gfx card may not solve your problem,
What else you got running, Norton or macaffee or something else that gobbles CPU time ?
try defragging your drive.
close any running programs that are active in your taskbar by the clock.
press ctrl alt delete ( if under xp) and then click the processes tab at the top, run geforce and see how much cpu time its taking. ias long as its not 100% you have spare clock cycles so the load problems maybe some thing else, any ways start with the defrag and get back to me.

I'll come to bed once i've seen everything in G-Force.

Orbstah is correct -- G-Force is primarily dependent upon your CPU and not your graphics card. Part of what makes G-Force so beautiful is that it computes each and every pixel based upon mathematical equations. This renders very beautiful screen patterns, but at high resolutions, it can mean that you computer has to calculate a million or more pixels at the rate of 15-30 times per second.Orbstah wrote:G-force is not gfx card dependant its is mainly concerned with your cpu, so a faster gfx card may not solve your problem,

If you are running other programs in the background, this can have a significant impact on the performance of G-Force. In particular, you should be mindful of applications that run continuously in the background (these applications often also run within your system tray).

OK, here's more info: I've defragged and gotten rid of all extra files & cookies. I do this regularly anyway. I've got a 120 gb hard drive that's 95% empty. I've just upgraded to an XFX GeForce 6600GT AGP video card with 128 mg RAM. I've also upgraded to a Samsung Syncmaster 21.3" LCD display. (Just got this stuff put in tonight!) I went up to 1280 x 1024, but I tried it back at 1024 x 768. My pixel doubling's off. I've switched off everything but my volume control and a few other non-resource hogging applications. While running in Windows Media Player, the processor's performance rating's in the 30's and 40's, with occasional spikes into the 50's. I love the astounding visuals I get, but it still keeps doing a quick stop every 3 seconds or so. The duration of the stop is probably less than an eye blink- between a fifth and a tenth of a second or so. The visuals start to flow, then there's a quick little stop; then they flow again, and a quick little stop. It's pretty evenly spaced the way it stops. It kind of gets in the way of me being able to flow with them. It happens with different kinds of music.
Sorry to take so long to get back, but I just kind of got resolved to "That's the way it be." I was hoping my new setup would maybe help. I really appreciate you tryig to help me out. Any other ideas?

Same Issue
I have the same effect when using G-Force in Windows Media Player. I did read something on the Soundspectrum website about Hyperthreading (I'm using a P4 3.2 HT - And Hyperthreading is on). It said to change the Affinity of the app (windows media player) in Task Manager-Processes, so I tried it, I stopped it using 2 processors. The problem went away. I have repeated the test and it does seem to work. It's a pain in the ar$e though because you have to do it each time you launch windows media player.
I found a much better solution, I have switched to using Winamp instead of media player, G-Force runs perfectly there. No medling rqd.
As you use AMD I'm not sure of the relevance of the 1st part.
