Album Covers in WMP 10?
I thought I read on this site that G-Force Gold 2.7 added support for album covers in WMP 10. But, I'm not getting any at all. How do I enable it, if it is in fact possible?
Any insights or observations so far? Also, I posted in another thread about this to a user using WMP 9. If you can make observations and reproduce them, pass them on to me and the users here (so I can perhaps try to improve this somehow).encj wrote:Okay, now I'm getting album art, but so far I only get art when I play tracks from one album in particular out of a few hundred on my hard drive..... I can't see any reason why it shows only that one and not any of the others so far.
Ideas?

hi all,
i just upgraded to G-Force gold and use windows media player too... i think the gold version is awesome but suffer from the same prob as u guys! however, i mite b able to shed some light on why this might be happening...
i think it's basically because of the way windows stores album art that is downloaded from the net through media player in the my music folder - they are stored as hidden files that i can only ever see when accessing the folder from within something nero burning rom. but i've never been able to "unhide" them to move or mess around with otherwise... now, when media player shows album art in the corner of the player, if you go
to "advanced tag editor" and go to the "pictures" tab you will not see anything there as i'm guessing media player is retrieving the pics from the hidden files in the my music folder. now i have 1 or 2 random albums (gorillaz is 1 example) where media player has decided to store album art info in the "pictures" tab and so g-force can access that to show up on the vis.
so i guess the solution is to get a way of accessing the hidden files from the source rather than the "pictures" tab of the "advanced tag editor"...?? i'm sure it can be done coz it is done on the new windows media player 10 vis that u can download, which is a rubbish vis but it does show all album art with the album info...
don't know if this helps towards a potential fix, but i'm glad to have made such long 1st post with some (hopefully) useful info n am glad to have become a part of this forum community!
Kaushik.

I am having the same problem with WMP 10 and both G-force and the special edition of Whitecap. Very occasionally some art displays, but this is the exception rather than the norm. I tried configuring windows so that the hidden album art was visible, but this did not seem to improve anything - there is still no album art, just the text info displayed. BTW, in windows XP these files can be made visible by clicking Tools>Folder Options and then selecting the view tab. Then select "Show hidden files and folders" and deselect "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)". The album art (and all other hidden files should now be visible in My Music folders). The trouble with this is that the settings seem to be applied globally, cluttering other directories with normally hidden files and making an accidental deletion of a critical file potentially harmful to the OS. But, as I said before, this method does not seem to improve the album art display in either visualization.
Just a couple more observations I have made. When album art does work (at least in my library) it seems to work for everything in an artists foler. My Music is organized by Artist and within that folder albums. Also, as previously noted in this forum by little dictator, album art only will display if it also shows up in the pictures tab (in the advanced tag editor). Album art support can be forced by making the hidden files visible and then adding the album art in the advanced tag editor. If you have over 6000 mp3 files as I do, however, this is hardly feasible. I'm not sure if any of this will help solve the problem, but it might be worth knowing.

I checked out what you guys were saying, and here's what I'm finding so far:
The albums that do show the album art do in fact have the picture showing in the advanced tag editor. However, I've set it to show all hidden files, and even for the albums that show the art, I can't see a picture file anywhere in the folder. The folders containing the albums that show the art contain nothing more than the folders containing albums that don't show the art -- at least not that I can see in the few cases I've checked out so far.

I'm not sure if your configuration is different from mine, but I had to not only change it to show all hidden files but also deselect "Hide protected operating system files." When both were set that way album art was visible in the folders that contained the mp3 files. However, there is no visible difference between folders that do display album art and those that don't even when album art is visible. The only difference I have found is in the Advanced Tag Editor, but I have no idea why some art is visible there and other art is not.
